Yeah,I think so, … Yeah,I think so, too. In the book “Everything” (about the Manics) it’s described how much Richey hated those church services for their being so hypocritical (his parents were methodists). Anyway, he called the priests/preachers “Cunts”, and so on…
I think it’s … I think it’s related to the “childhood pictures redeem….see myself without ruining lines” line. He idealises the innocence of childhood which we identify with in pictures of ourselves when young. In those pictures we all see “traces of creation” .It’s intangible and hopeless however given the “runing lines” of adulthood; we can’t match that perfection; we “crawl sidewards” instead. Certainly Richey did. There are pictures of the band members as children inside the album sleeve too.
‘if you really care … ‘if you really care, wash the feet of a beggar…’ sounds like a clear message for all those multimillionaire bible bashers…, one of my favourite tracks of one of the greatest albums ever made.
“scratch my leg … “scratch my leg with a rusty nail / sadly it heals. / colour my hair but the dye grows out / I can’t seem to stay a fixed ideal.” *sigh*
I interpret ” … I interpret “crawled so far sideways” as saying… some people walk tall and upright, some people walk with their head down, and he’s just crawling sideways… upways, downways, diagonal ways, all ways… it doesn’t matter. you can’t go back to “summer.” And “dim traces of creation” you think of creation as this blazing thing, pure, the ultimate human achievement, god like. but as soon as it enters the world, it fades. “creation” is just things in museums, videos on tv. nothing shines for him.
neither have i but … neither have i but i reckon it might have something to do with evolution, as in he is crawling because he hasn’t evolved and he can see ‘traces of creation’?
Can anyone explain … Can anyone explain the
“I have crawled so far sideways I recognise dim traces of creation” line? I’ve never understood it properly.
the guitars are … the guitars are crazy in this one..i don’t know which is best archives of pain or this one from THB..anyway best listen at maximum volume..great lyrics and the song just take out the pain and anger from your head and fills your soul with pure sadness..james,nicky,sean ..love u guys you’re still great..and richey hope u’re at peace with everything
I think it’s … I think it’s certainly one of the greatest rock albums ever, and the pinnacle of not compromising integrity. I’d love to see the music biz execs’ faces when they brought them something with titles like “Of Walking Abortion” and “The Intense Humming of Evil” and called it “The Holy Bible.”
I don’t have much use for 4st 7lbs, This is Yesterday or PCP but the rest is magnificent.
Best album ever … Best album ever written? To be totally honest…I can’t think of one which matches lyrics AND music as impeccably as this one. This is life-changing stuff.
