A "Literal Interpretation" of the Bible is just a phrase invented by Young Earth Creationists to try and give support to their otherwise baseless interpretation of scripture.

A "Literal Interpretation" of the Bible isn't even possible, as there are tons of statements in the Bible that are, without a doubt, figurative. For example, in Matthew 5:13, Jesus says that we are the salt of the earth. We're not salt, we're people! Obvious it is a metaphorical statement, he means that we give the world it's "flavoring", just like salt is used to give foods flavoring.

These "Biblical Literalists", as they're called, must believe that Jesus is saying people are mostly made of sodium chloride if they're going interpret the Bible literally. Obviously though, they don't, they believe that Jesus is speaking metaphorically. "Biblical Literalists" don't interpret the Bible literally any more than anyone else does, they interpret it contextually just like everyone else does. "Biblical Literalists" just have a different opinion on what the context is some cases. "Biblical Literalists" just use their claim of a literal interpretation as an intimidation tactic against you.
References :
The bible is parables but God did also give straight up answers everytime it says "I tell you truth" means its a straight answer. The parables also have answers to them but man is not patient and usually will give own opinion. That is why the bible is for those that are chosen to understand. The parables are easier than people think. I will give you an example Matthew 13:24 is the parable of the Weeds then the answer to it is on Matthew 13:36. You also need both Old and New Testament to find Parable and answer otherwise your lost in translation.
References :
Elohim Academy

Because if they took the whole Bible literally and really believed what it says, they'd have to give up all their modern conveniences and freedoms and live a spartan lifestyle in complete servitude to God. It's easier for them to just be hypocrites and make excuses for why God doesn't really want them to do what he says to in the Bible.
References :
I read the bible within the context the author wrote it. There's a difference between the old covenant that God gave to the jews and them only. And The new covenant that Jesus gave to his followers. A person's inconsistency to scripture doesn't invalidate scripture as a whole.
References :
I interpret the Bible literally. Why do other people do what they do? only God knows.
References :
The Bible is literal. But not as simplistic as people make it to be. For example the perpetual disagreement over the Creation Days being literal 24 hour periods or ages is irrelevant to whether or not the Bible is literal and true. The Bible is true even if no one gets it right.
